Demonstration in Kosovo
February 10, 2010
The political movement “Self-Determination!” (in Albanian, “Lëvizja VETËVENDOSJE!”) has announced that it will stage activities in the Pristina city center, tomorrow, Wednesday, February 10th, beginning at noon (1200 hours).
Americans are advised to adjust their travel plans to avoid this area from 1200 hours to 1800 hours. According to local press reports, the activities will take place in the center of Pristina, starting at noon (1200 hours) in the Arberia neighborhood, then moving to Mother Theresa Street, Cinema ABC, and ending at the Pristina Sports Center at 1800 hours.
Demonstrations take place in Kosovo from time to time in response to world events or local developments. We remind American citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence. American citizens are therefore urged to avoid the areas of demonstrations if possible, and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of any demonstrations. American citizens should stay current with media coverage of local events and be aware of their surroundings at all times.
Americans traveling abroad should regularly monitor the U.S. Embassy’s website and the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Consular Affairs website, where the current Worldwide Caution, Travel Warnings, Travel Alerts, and Country Specific Information can be found.
