DOKUFEST 2008, August 4 - 10, 2008 Prizren (www.dokufest.com)

The 7th annual International Documentary and Short Film Festival DOKUFEST opened on August 4, 2008 in Prizren and closed on August 10.   DOKUFEST is the largest, most popular and most well-attended Film Festival in Kosovo.  Many films are screened, workshops are organized, concerts are held -- and it always receives wide media coverage. Many internationals visit Kosovo during DOKUFEST.

This year DOKUFEST received 655 film submissions and they selected 139 documentary and short films for screening.  Other editions of films include: DOKUPINK (charity funds dedicated to kids with cancer), DOKUKIDS (short films for children) and DOKUPHOTO (exhibition of photos). DOKUFEST, an NGO that has received some financial support over the last several years from the Public Affairs Section, intends to develop and promote local and international film production.  The aim is to bring participants from the region and around the world to Kosovo in order to exchange their professional experiences with fellow filmmakers

NOTE: The U.S. Embassy sponsored the 7th edition of DOKUFEST by bringing two American filmmakers and an American photographer to Kosovo, as well as paid for the official catalogue.

Americans at DOKUFEST:

1. Doug Whyte, Portland, Oregon - Jury Member of International Documentary Competition
2. Sean Flynn, Boston, Massachusetts – Cinematographer and Associate producer –
    Film: “Beyond Belief”
3. Teru Kuwayama, New York, NY - Photographer, exhibiting at the Hamam during “DokuPhoto.”
