Ambassador Jacobson meets with Prime Minister Thaci.

It was a great pleasure for me to have my first meeting with the Prime Minister this morning.  I was able during this meeting to reconfirm the strong support of the United States for Kosovo's economic development, for Kosovo's further development of a multi-ethnic democracy, and for Kosovo's future on its European path.  We were able to discuss many of the important topics of the day -- I was able to congratulate the Prime Minister with the upcoming end of supervised independence, to congratulate Kosovo with all the concrete results that have been achieved so far since the declaration of its independence, and to discuss some of the work that remains.

I expressed my full support for the efforts of the Government of Kosovo to expand outreach to the population in the north, and to engage in a serious dialogue with Serbia. Which we believe will bring about further progress in the region, including economic progress.  I informed the Prime Minister that we look forward to close cooperation between the U.S. Embassy here in Pristina and his government, and I look forward to talking again sometime soon.
